Study of Optical Masers.

Abstract

The principal accomplishment reported here is the development of tunable, coherent light sources, both in the infrared and the vacuum ultraviolet. For both frequency ranges, generation was accomplished through four-wave parametric mixing, resonantly enhanced at the two-photon energy. In the case of the infrared generation, the tuning range finally achieved was 2-30 micrometers. The vacuum ultraviolet tuning range realized was 1500-2000A, although light at discrete frequencies at still shorter wavelengths (3.g., 1278A) was also generated.
