A Theoretical Study of Fiberoptronics for Avionic Applications.

Abstract

This project provides a survey of the current state-of-the-art and considers fiberoptronics in the light of potential avionic applications. Types of fibers, light generators, and light detectors which are suitable for avionic applications are discussed. Fiberoptronic links are viable for use in highly selective areas such as multiplexed data bus and cryptographic systems but components need to be qualified to the environmental conditions of the aircraft. Calculations for a basic fiberoptronic link are discussed. The report contains a 42-item bibliography.
