Radio Set AN/URC-78 ()/(V).

Abstract

Optimization of the Phase I design of Radio Set AN/URC-78()/(V) was initiated. Emphasis is placed on the design of an RT unit having rapid channel change and receive-transmit turn-around, so that an affordable ECOM capability of moderate sophistication can be provided. A single IF bandwidth of 16 kHz using 16 kHz premodulation filtering and 8 kHz post demodulation filtering is shown to be near optimum. A design of the 30-88 MHz frequency range using a receiver IF of 11 MHz is presented. The system configuration have been selected for detailed evaluation of cost and performance trade-offs: (1) optimized Phase I (ADM) approach and (2) common module approach. A synthesizer with fast settling time is described which will provide slow frequency hopping capability. An ECCM system is presented which will provide a signficant degree of ECM protection with a moderate increase in complexity. Implementation of a narrow band filter to reduce transmitter 40-watt amplifier output noise has been analyzed and a tentative design is described.
