Application of an Automatic Level Regulator to Taped Contacts in Sonar Detection Research.

Abstract

In an effort to obtain more accurate sonar detection threshold level measurements, a selection of transient noise-free sections of sonar contact recordings was made. These sections were then removed from the master recording and formed into endless loops. These recorded loops were then reproduced through an automatic level regulator and re-recorded onto a tape reel. Noise transients were eliminated and signal-to-noise fluctuations were reduced.
