A Study of Regent Numerical Methods for the Barotropic Primitive Equations.

Abstract

In recent months there has been considerable interest in applying finite element methods to time-dependent problems in meteorology and oceanography. This paper analyzes a number of recent papers dealing with wave propagation in non-linear equations with the purpose of delineating some of the more obvious mathematical problems which must be addressed regarding the use of finite elements in numerical forecasting. Some new results are presented. (Author)
