Interactive Systems Research: Final Report to the Director, Advanced Research Projects Agency

Abstract

Progress in developing a prototype computer system for understanding human speech is described. The system is designed to respond to queries regarding characteristics of several hundred naval vessels. This report describes the acoustic-phonetic and lexical-mapping processes of the system in some detail. Also described are two other projects--one to develop an archive of lexical-semantic information on English words and one to develop a system for efficient conversion of data bases from one data management system to another.
