Establishment of Environmental Protection Agency in China.

Abstract

According to a reliable source, the Government of the Peoples' Republic of China has apparently newly created an agency called the Department (or Bureau) of Environmental Protection. Heretofore, interest to the environment by the Chinese government has been fragmentary, with only noteworthy programs such as nationwide forestation. Chinese cities are cleaner in comparison to other Asian cities. However, pollution from vehicles such as trucks and buses, and gross pollution in industrial areas are noticeable even to foreign observers. On this point, the official periodical of the Communist party, 'The Koki' ('Red Flag') comments that regulation of urban growth in size would be important.
