A Study on the Evolution, Prediction, and Modification of Large Storms.
Abstract
The report is an in-depth study of the evolution, prediction, and modification of large storms. The term 'large storm' is used generically and it encompasses hurricanes, tropical depressions and disturbances, extratropical cyclones and frontal activity. The comprehensive research on descriptive meteorology investigates synoptic-scale circulation and presents the fundamental theoretical concepts used in the analysis of large storms. Present forecasting capabilities are reviewed, a number of weather prediction techniques are examined, and the recent use of remote instrumentation is investigated. Finally the research efforts to modify large storms are assessed.
