Wastewater Treatment Facility Evaluation, Rickenbacker AFB OH.

Abstract

The wastewater treatment facility at Rickenbacker AFB OH was evaluated. The survey period characteristics of the raw, primary clarifier, trickling filter and final effluent wastewater were determined, and treatment facility operating logs containing information relative to these characteristics were analyzed. Techniques to upgrade facility performance to ensure compliance with the 1977 NPDES Permit requirements are discussed. Methods of upgrading the performance of the existing trickling filters and the feasibility of chemical coagulation and precipitation processes to upgrade treatment facility performance are discussed in detail. The results of jar tests utilizing three separate coagulant systems performed on-site are reported. The technical feasibility of a state-of-the-art water and wastewater treatment plant sludge recycling system that can be expanded to reduce the volume of base refuse and simultaneously produce energy for the lime recalcination process is discussed.
