Aerospace Munitions Officer Utilization Field (EOD), AFSCs 4621B and 4625B, Munitions Disposal Career Ladder, AFSCs 46430, 46450, 46470, and 46490.

Abstract

The survey sampled 412 airmen and 42 officers. Most respondents indicated feeling their jobs were interesting, and that their talents and training were being utilized fairly well. Expressed intentions to reelist were higher than figures for the sample of 20 career fields surveyed at approximately the same time. Task difficulty ratings showed tasks involving improvised explosive devices (IED) and unexploded ordnance (UXO) as the most difficult; and tasks relating to administrative and supply functions least difficult. There were a number of tasks performed by DAFSC 464X0 personnel pertaining to the disposal of unserviceable munitions, IED, and supply function which are not in present AFM 39-1 job describptions. There were also some supervisory and technical EOD tasks performed by 4625B officers not included in their AFM 36-1 job description. Overall, the 464X0 AFS is a homogeneous field with classroom and hands on proficiency training tasks taking substantial amounts of duty time for most incumbents. The officer utilization field is more diverse. In addition, officers as a group spent almost half their time on tasks from the managing and supervising duty and far smaller amounts of time on proficiency training tasks. The STS appears to cover adequately the skills and knowledges required in the field.
