Applications of DICIFER.
Abstract
The project effort was divided into two main application areas related in objective but different in sensor. Existing and new DICIFER routines were used to develop capability for: (1) detecting significant changes in aircraft count at military airbases using high-resolution, monochrome reconnaissance imagery, and (2) establishing a set of features for detection of tactical targets using high-resolution SAR imagery. The former required the addition of several new feature extraction and classification routines based on shape (Part I). The latter effort was largely experimental (Part II). In addition, a short study (Part III) was made to determine the extent to which information-lossless data compaction techniques could be used to increase the number of images that could be stored on DICIFER.
