Satellite Communications in a Scintillated Environment

Abstract

An improved method of calculating the statistical properties of a signal propagating through a strongly striated ionosphere is described. Calculations are carried out for a representative equatorial and polar ionosphere. The results are then used to evaluate the performance of an M-ary frequency shift key and a binary phase shift key satellite communications link.
