Covariance Analysis of the DD 963 Navigation System.

Abstract

A detailed covariance analysis of the DD 963 navigation system is performed. A fully documented, 26-state model of the navigation system environment and sensor errors is developed. Multisensor, integrated navigation using an EM log, ship's gyro, Omega navigation receiver, and NNSS satellite is analyzed. Two primary systems are defined which yield suboptimal, 'best' performance, depending on the sensor system environment. Use of the recommended systems results in significantly improved navigation accuracy. Curves and tables provide detailed summaries of system performance according to a designated baseline scenario and several off-nominal variations as well.
