Magneto-Optical Studies of Magnetic Bubble Domains in Nickel Iron and Cobalt Alloys.

Abstract

The report summarizes the results reported in some 18 papers published by those associated with the research group at Salford 1971-1973. The study of bubble domain structures in thin films and foils by Lorentz electron microscopy i.e. using the interaction between the transmitted electron beam and the magnetization in the specimen. The resolution is about 50 A. The structure of the bubble domain wall has been determined and Bloch line structures identified and discussed in relation to the hard bubble. Bubble domain structures have been observed in cobalt, its alloys and in Permalloy. The observations in Permalloy have led to a patent application. (Author)
