Breakdown of Symmetry Selection Rules for Defect Induced Raman Scattering,

Abstract

Theoretical results are presented which prove the breakdown of the usual selection rules for first order Raman scattering in resonance with an electronic transition of a localized defect from a degenerate ground state to degenerate excited electronic states which have a dynamic Jahn Teller effect. The theory is illustrated by applying it to the particular case of the F center in CsF.
