MiniCAS Field Acceptance Test Results.

Abstract

The report summarizes the results and preliminary conclusions derived from the field acceptance test of feasibility model airborne Time/Frequency Collision Avoidance System equipment. The equipment described includes general aviation-type 'MiniCAS' units which employ time differenced range measurements (deltaR/deltaT) to digitally derive range rate. Special deltaR/deltaT units, which interface with aircarrier type CAS, were also tested to obtain simultaneous comparison of Doppler-derived range rate with deltaR/deltaT. Both versions of the airborne CAS employed full TAU-threat evaluation logic. Preliminary results indicate that the newer deltaR/deltaT logic provides better range rate accuracy than the original Doppler method. The report includes analyses of communication reliability, time synchronization accuracy, range rate accuracy and CAS-threat response for a limited sample of acceptance test data.
