The Problem of Climate: A Review for the Nonspecialist,
Abstract
This paper was originally prepared as a contribution to a report of the Committee on Atmospheric Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences whose intention was to survey problems and opportunities in selected aspects of the atmospheric sciences for a nontechnical audience. In this spirit, this essay attempts to discuss the problem of climate without the use of mathematical equations or specific literature references, and with a minimum of technical illustrations. However, the Academy's report was not published, and therefore this paper is being reproduced here in order to achieve an initial distribution among those portions of the general scientific and administrative audience which may be interested in this increasingly important problem.
