Acceleration Resistant Quartz Crystal Units.

Abstract

The elimination of undesirable effects of acceleration on the frequency of a quartz oscillator is the subject of the investigation. The report includes a description and analysis of acceleration experiments performed on fourteen quartz oscillator units, with fundamental or third overtone frequency of 5.00 MHz. These units, utilizing various types of mounts, were subjected to an acceleration of 50g in two mutually perpendicular directions. The data available from other investigators on the effects of externally applied forces is related to the data obtained during this program, accompanied by a discussion of technical problems and conclusions.
