Heat Dispersion in Physical Estuarine Models. Report 2. Experiments in the Delaware River Model,

Abstract

The report is the second of three to be published on the results of investigations of heat dispersion in physical estuarine models conducted in the Delaware River and Trinity Bay models for the Office, Chief of Engineers, U. S. Army. The results of this investigation indicate that the Delaware River physical model at the U. S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station can be used effectively to predict the thermal plume characteristics from certain types of heated discharges into the Delaware Estuary. Specifically, the discharges investigated on the Delaware River are classified as low densimetric Froude number discharges, i.e. canals or low-exit-velocity pipe discharges. The near-field distortion effect is at a minimum in the model with this type of discharge.
