The Resistance of Polyester, Nylon, and Manila Ropes to Hydrochloric Acid Attack.
Abstract
This study was conducted in order to recommend a lifeline rope material which is more acid resistant than manila rope in dealing with massive acid spills. Testing showed that polyester ropes are about 50 times more resistant to HCl attack than normal manila ropes, and polyester rope is thus recommended for use in acid environment. The limitations for use of polyester ropes are discussed. Nylon ropes are not recommended for use. (Author)
