Electro-Optical Surveillance at Cloudcroft: Engineering Modifications.

Abstract

Several major efforts were completed for the Electro Optical Research Facility at Cloudcroft, New Mexico, with the objectives of updating and improving the facility. The significance of these efforts to the Air Force is that important new technical capabilities have been achieved for conducitng in-house laboratory R and D on electro-optical and infrared sensor and data processing techniques for aerospace surveillance. This will enable the Cloudcroft E/O facility to better support Technical Needs and Required Operational Capabilities of AFSC Systems Divisions and AF Operational Commands. These efforts included design, fabrication, and installation of a photometer/TV camera mount, safety door actuators and focus test apertures, and a radiometer mount. A plan was developed for overhaul of the 48-in. telescope and a mathematical pointing error model was made. Installation of a solid state servo control system was made and considerable software was developed for real time telescope control using the IBM computer. (Author)
