Geometric Description of Developed Cavities on Zero and Quarter Caliber Ogive Bodies.

Abstract

The geometry and cavitation numbers have been measured for developed cavities on zero and quarter caliber ogive bodies. An empirical evaluation of the cavity geometry such as maximum cavity diameter, half length, and surface area is made for both natural and ventilated cavities. The data, presented in terms of the relevant similarity parameters, are correlated using a least squares curve fit method. The effect of model contour on the cavity geometry is discussed.
