Abatement of Nitrogen Oxides Effluent from the 50 mw Hypersonic Test Leg Electrogasdynamics Facility.

Abstract

Methods for the abatement of nitrogen oxides from the Facility were evaluated technically and economically. Methods previously tested by AFFDL were reviewed. New methods considered included: absorption, adsorption, catalytic decomposition and reduction, dispersion from tall stacks, entrapment, gas phase reactions, and thermal reduction methods including controlled cooling and flame incineration in the boilers. Evaluations were based on scientific and technical literature as well as personal contacts and in-house computer simulations. A selective catalytic reduction method using ammonia as the reductant over a zeolite catalyst was recommended. A subsequent report will be issued detailing design criteria for the application of this method to the Facility. (Author)
