Research Opportunities in the Management of Weapons Systems Acquisition.

Abstract

The purposes of the this project are: (1) To identify major areas in the field of weapons systems acquisition in which research might be done; (2) Within each of these areas to specify researchable issues, in the form of questions that might be answered by means of research projects; and (3) For each of the issues to describes one or more research projects that addresses the question posed by the issue. In addition, each research project is to be evaluated on its feasibility and usefulness to the Navy. Thus, the purpose of this effort is not to do research, but to identify areas, issues, and projects. Five research areas, eleven research issues, and a total of twenty research projects are identified. Contractual coordination, incentives, design changes, project management, and external interactions.
