Celestial Aspect Sensor System.

Abstract

A system was developed to determine rocket payload attitude with respect to a star field. The system operates under day or night conditions; it gives attitude within 0.1 deg updated 10 times/sec. It relays this information via a digital bit stream, requiring less than 4 kHz of telemetry bandwidth. The system is capable of detecting stars of +3 1/2 magnitude and is relatively immune to airglow, zodiacal light, or uniform background lighting. (Author)
