Theoretical and Numerical Studies of the Upper Atmosphere using Satellite and Rocket Measurments.

Abstract

Ionospheric phenomena were studied based on analyses of satellite and rocket borne instrumentation measurements. Areas of interest included determination of atmospehric number densities, ionic compostion, ionization production rates, and scale heights. Various geopotential and density models were used to verify results. A three-dimensional numerical model of the quiet-time thermosphere was developed. Some of the computer programs written and developed for these studies are included in this report. (Author)
