Statistical Mechanical Foundations of Aerodynamics.

Abstract

Intuitively, the molecular collisions that contribute to transport when attempting to improve the Boltzmann approximation are the genuine or close three-body collisions (i.e., those that occur with separation less than the mean free path) rather than the remote collisions (i.e., all the others). The separation between close and remote collisions is an approximate consequence of the Volterra-Fredholm equation satisfied by the two-body correlation in the presence of all three-body collisions.
