Demonstration of a Flexible Remoting System for AFSATCOM to Meet Diverse User Requirements.

Abstract

As part of the RC-135 test program, a demonstration of the AFSATCOM system remoting capability was planned. The remoting system was developed at The Aeropsace Corporation to demonstrate the feasibility of transmitting and receiving message traffic via an AFSATCOM ground terminal remotely from a UYA-7 or UGC-120. It was also desired to demonstrate the feasibility of remote control of the terminal frequency plan, modem channel, and antenna. Although difficulties were experienced during early development of the demonstration remoting system, they were overcome through software modification and the test results show conclusively that the general purpose computer approach is valid. The fact that rapid reprogramming and program modifications could be quickly accomplished to meet schedule deadlines attests to the flexibility and adaptability offered by this approach. (Author)
