Development of the Multiturn Loop Antenna at VHF for Vehicular Applications.

Abstract

This report describes the results of a program to develop the electrically small multiturn loop antenna for vehicular applications. The loop size used was 5 inches in diameter by 8 inches long. The operating frequency band was 30 to 80 MHz. Radiation efficiency varied from a minimum of 12% at 30 MHz to over 60% at 75 MHz. Single and multiple element array patterns are shown as a function of antenna location for a full size vehicle model. Comparisons with the AS-1729 whip are shown. The development of a remote tuning control is described which is modifiable for automatic operation. (Author)
