Gas Turbine Transpiration Cooling Research. Part III. Prediction of Transition Region Location and Extent for the Effects of Surface Curvature, Free-Stream Turbulence, Pressure Gradients, Wall Temperature, and Unit Reynolds Number.

Abstract

A survey of boundary layer transition literature is made with emphasis on the effects of surface curvature, free-stream turbulence, pressure gradients, heat transfer, and unit Reynolds number. Brief reviews of significant literature on each of the effects are presented. A discussion of methods for predicting the transition region, with emphasis on conditions commonly found in turbomachinery, is also presented. An extensive bibliography and representative figures and plots are provided. (Author)
