Asymptotic Properties of the Mie Coefficients

Abstract

Analytic expressions for the asymptotic forms of the Mie coefficients are derived. The asymptotic regions are defined as those where one of the dimensionless parameters x or n is much larger than the other, x being the Mie size parameter and n the coefficient index. The accuracy and range of applicability of the results is investigated and some important special cases are treated in detail. The utility of the results in numerical computations is also discussed.
