Physics of the Vortex Core.

Abstract

A high flame speed of propagation has been observed in combustible vortex rings. Kinetic theory of the vortex core gas indicates that Barnett polarization of the rotating gas molecules will occur. In such a spinaligned gas, transport of heat is greatly facilitated and could explain the high flame speed. Other anomalous transport and optical properties of the gas are predicted. (Author)
