An Evaluation of the Numazu Operating Area and Kagoshima Harbor, Japan as Typhoon Havens.

Abstract

The study evaluates the Numazu Operating Area and Kagoshima Harbor as possible typhoon havens. Characteristics of the areas under tropical cyclone conditions, including climatology, topographical effects on the wind, and wave action at each location are discussed. Problem areas to be considered if remaining in the operating area/harbor and suggested evasion procedures for ships are examined.
