Deduction of the Turbulent Prandtl Number in the Wall Region from Wall Measurements in the Thermal Entry.

Abstract

Recent numerical analytic methods for the thermal entry region are synthesized with measurements of the local Nusselt number in a circular tube to provide a diagnostic technique to deduce the turbulent Prandtl number in the wall region from measurements in the immediate thermal entry. The technique provides a means to obtain information on the turbulent Prandtl number profile even when other considerations, such as cost or buoyancy effects, require that test section dimensions be too small for direct measurements with probes.
