Convection in the Closed Brayton Cycle.

Abstract

To correspond to conditions expected in heaters in the closed Brayton cycle, analyses and experiments were conducted for forced convective heat transfer to gases flowing turbulently in circular tubes. The range of interest was 0.2 < Pr < or = 0.7, representing mixtures of inert gases. Numerical analyses predicted that existing scaling laws for gases would not represent the Prandtl number dependence. Measurements with a helium/argon mixture (Pr=0.42) confirmed the trends of the analyses. (Author)
