Tactical Miniature Crystal Oscillator.
Abstract
This report describes the further development of a fast warmup Tactical Miniature Crystal Oscillator (TMXO). The intended use for this TMXO is as a reference frequency source in advanced tactical communications systems and in time ordered navigational systems. The present effort is a continuation by the authors of a previous study which defined particular problem areas. The TMXO is an evacuated enclosure containing a thermal insulating pedestal, a vacuum sealed hybrid microcircuit and a thermally isotropic back filled crystal unit. Both packages are supported by the pedestal. Changes in the electrical, mechanical and thermal design are described, pertaining to the solution of the remaining problems.
