Electron Impact Ionization Cross Sections of Gold, Chromium and Iron

Abstract

Relative and absolute electron impact ionization cross sections were measured for species of three elements. The data include results on Au(+), Au(2+), Au(3+); Cr(+), Cr(2+); Fe(+), Fe(2+), Fe(3+). Total cross section results on the elements are also reported. A description of the procedure and equipment as well as some of the difficulties in the experiment are presented. Related information from the literature, both experimental and theoretical, are discussed in a comparative context.
