High Speed Computer Studies of Vortex Motions in Relation to Aircraft Wake Turbulence.

Abstract

Computations are presented and compared with experimental data from other sources for basic and advanced problems in aircraft - wake vortex interactions. Results are presented for coalescence of corotation and counterrotating vortex groups and finally a complete high speed computer method is developed for simulating the roll reaction of an aircraft to the wake produced by a large aircraft with flaps deployed. Suggestions for improved experimental approaches are also appended. (Author)
