Pentacarbonyliron(0) Photocatalyzed Reactions of Trialkylsilanes with Alkenes.

Abstract

Irradiation of Fe(CO)5 in the presence of R3SiH(R = CH3- or C2H5-) and an alkene leads to the formation of alkane, alkyl-SiR3, and alkenyl-SiR3 in a ratio dependent on temperature and initial substrate ratios. The key species generated by the light is (H)(R3Si)Fe(CO)3(alkene) which can be used to account for all products and their dependence on temperature and substrate ratio. The products can be obtained in synthetic quantities. (Author)
