Automated System for the Depot Surveillance Record Card and the DoD Ammunition Data Card: A Feasibility Study.

Abstract

Manual methods of preparation and maintenance of the Depot Surveillance Record Card and the DoD Ammunition Data Card are costly and time consuming. An analysis was conducted to determine the feasibility of modifying the existing System-Wide Project for Electronic Equipment at Depots-Extended (SPEEDEX) system. This modification would provide the capability of generating computerized depot surveillance records. This paper is concerned with three areas: (1) Determination of the cost of the present manual system; (2) Estimating the cost required to modify the existing computer system to provide the necessary input/output formats and data storage requirements; and (3) A cost comparison of both systems. The results are that it would pay for itself in four (4) years. (Author)
