Analysis, Evaluation, and Recommendations for Modification of the Integrated Logistics Evaluation Simulation (FILES) Model.

Abstract

The object of the research project was to analyze, evaluate, and recommend modifications to the Family of Military Engineering Construction Equipment (FAMECE) Integrated Logistics Evaluation Simulation (FILES). This consisted of analyzing and evaluating several computer models in relation to their usefulness as a model for the FAMECE system. The criteria used in these evaluations was: (1) use of availability algorithms; (2) capability of handling the FAMECE concept for equipment; (3) maintenance level breakdown; and (4) hardware level breakdown. The FAMECE is a new concept of construction vehicles where a power module is connected to any of seven different types of work modules to form a construction vehicle. The current FILES model was discussed with problems occurring in the maintenance area, transportation area, stock levels, mission lengths, type of mission simulated, and the type of vehicles in each construction unit. This project also recommends several possible solutions to the problem. These solutions are: (1) modifying the current model in GPSS through the Advanced Research Projects Agency computer network; (2) using the Army Organizational Maintenance Simulation model; or (3) writing a new program using one of several other computer languages.
