Study of Semiconductor Surfaces Using the Technique of Optical Second Harmonic Generation.
Abstract
Optical Harmonic Generation is used to detect submonolayers of atoms on solid surfaces. It is shown that nonlinear optical method is much more sensitive than linear reflectance to the surface atoms. A nonlinear optical mixing spectroscopy should be able to detect most of the low lying excitations of a monolayer of atoms adsorbed on solid surfaces. CS of O2 coadsorption on metal and semiconductor surfaces has been studied in detail using LEED, Work function photoemission and Auger spectroscopy. (Author)
