Vapor Phase Spectra for Air Pollution Studies

Abstract

Infrared absorption spectra of the following substances in the vapor phase are presented: acetaldehyde, acetonitrile, acrolein, ammonia, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, ethane, ethylene, formaldehyde, formic acid, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen cyanide, hydrogen sulfide, methane, methanol, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, nitrous oxide, ozone, sulfur dioxide, and water. Resolution is 0.5/cm and low sample pressure further enhances fine structure of the absorption bands. The frequencies of nearly 3000 absorption lines for these compounds, accurate to 0.1/cm, are listed in tabular form. A discussion of techniques to minimize noise problems in Fourier transform spectroscopy is included.
