Shear Strength Properties for the Antelope Lake Target, Tonopah Test Range, Nevada.

Abstract

Available shear strength data for playa lake deposits were analyzed and estimates of the unconsolidated undrained shear strengths of the materials in the top 200 feet in the Antelope Lake playa target at Tonopah Test Range (TTR) were made in support of a study of penetration theory based upon the cavity expansion theory. Data from playa deposits at Antelope and Main Lakes, TTR, and Yucca and Frenchman Lakes, Nevada Test Site (NTS), were analyzed to gain insight into the possible range of strengths. A four-layer profile was recommended for the Antelope Lake target. Representative composition properties and a range of shear strengths were recommended for each layer.
