Use of Physostigmine by the Intravenous, Intramuscular, and Oral Routes in the Therapy of Anticholinergic Drug Intoxication

Abstract

Physostigmine was administered by three routes (intravenous, intramuscular, and oral) to treat intoxication by anticholinergic compounds in man. The drug by all routes of administration is effective. There are several reasons why the intravenous route of administration is not preferable for routine use.
