EDL Performance Model. Part III. Analysis of Closed Cycle Electron-Beam Sustained CO2 EDL with Air Contaminant.

Abstract

A computer model has been developed and applied to evaluate the characteristics of continuously flowing CO2 electron-beam sustained electric discharge lasers. The model contains a detailed treatment of the cavity flow, finite rate excitation-relaxation kinetics, electron beam and electric discharge including the effects of gas recirculation and air contamination. Wave propagation is treated with a two-dimensional Fresnel integral method allowing laser radiation to interact with the flowing gain medium. Predicted performance levels show generally good agreement with experimental results. (Author)
