Hill AFB Beryllium and Cadmium Emission Evaluation.

Abstract

Stack emissions from a beryllium honing booth used to clean C-5A brakeshoes were measured. Beryllium emissions of 0.55 g/day were found. The current federal standard for beryllium stack emissions is 10 g/day. Emissions from a vacuum cadmium metalizing unit were also measured. Total emissions from the unit averaged 2000 micrograms cadmium dust per plating cycle. Ambient air concentrations in the work area below the exhaust outlet averaged 0.0001 mg/cu m. The current Threshold Limit Value (TLV) for cadmium dust is 0.05 mg/cu m.
