Analysis of Cage Motion.

Abstract

Generalized dynamic motion of the cage in a rolling bearing is formulated in terms of the classical differential equations of motion. Both the ball and roller cages are considered and also the cage is allowed to be guided either on the race (outer or inner) or the rolling elements themselves. Simplified models for interactions between rolling elements and cage and also for those between the cage and race presented. A review of the available experimental data on cage motion is undertaken in order to qualitatively understand the possible instabilities and their relation to cage motion parameters.
