Reflective Coatings Reliability Study.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to quantify and document the degradation of three reflective optical coatings under simulated environmental conditions generally representative of those to be encountered by the coatings in high energy laser systems applications. The objective of this study included the identification of the relative importance of specific environments on the selected coatings. Three types of reflective coatings were proposed for this study: Gold (Au), Silver with Thorium Tetrafluoride overcoating (Ag-ThF4) and a multilayer dielectric coating (MLD) consisting of (ZnSe-ThF4).
