Analysis of Supersonic Unsteady Cascades with the Method of Characteristics. Volume I.

Abstract

A finite unsteady supersonic cascade is analyzed with the method of characteristics. The cascade can be placed between fixed rigid walls or in a free stream. Linearized aerodynamic theory is used throughout the present study. The full Kutta condition is imposed at the trailing edge but a modified wake condition can be used whereby the wake strength is permitted to decay with downstream distance. The lift and moment coefficients are calculated on all blades in the cascade with only one blade excited in translation or rotation at a single frequency. To check the accuracy of the numerical scheme, results are presented for a single blade and compared with the exact theory.
